Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
An important official stated the vandalism made him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
