The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger About Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's garments failing to inform all users about the change.
Digital Channels Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Changes
Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
